Prayer for Holy Week

Along with your disciples
deeply our hearts praise you, O Lord
Great things you will do for us
but not before suffering the pain of the cross
and the wrath of mankind;
as we read and journey through Holy Week,
speak to us Lord, warm our hearts,
strengthen our faith to believe
and fill us with your joy anew
when we hear the news of the angels
the tomb is empty, and all that you foretold is true.

Though we cannot understand,
in faith let us give thanks
‘HE IS RISEN.’ Death has been conquered.
Alleluia, Amen

Daily Bible study will be led by the much-admired and highly respected Gordon Mursell, formerly Bishop of Stafford and Dean of Birmingham, and Jo Brand is the speaker at the Gathering Dinner. Make sure you get hold of a brochure, and complete the booking form to be there, in the Gap as we gather together to ‘Mind The Gap’.

Election Hustings 2015

I am delighted that all the candidates for the Ludlow Constituency election have agreed to attend a hustings meeting at St. Mary’s East Castle Street on Tuesday 14th April at 7.30pm. The meeting will take an ‘Any Questions’ format and candidates will be asked to respond to general and local questions put to them by the electorate in turn. I will be in the chair to direct proceedings. The meeting is expected to be ninety minutes long and will be an opportunity for the whole community to come and hear the views of our candidates first hand.

As chair I am hoping to ensure a broad range of topics will be covered, local and national, and to that end I wish to invite people who are planning to come to submit questions in advance. Please address these to me at the Rectory, 16 East Castle Street in envelopes marked ‘Hustings.’ If time permits there may well be the opportunity for further questions direct from the floor. The candidates will NOT be notified of the questions before they are put.

Please also take the opportunity to encourage friends and neighbours to attend.

EARTH HOUR 28th March 2015 8.30 – 9.30pm

Earth Hour is a worldwide movement for the planet organized by the World Wild Fund for Nature [WWF]. This event has been held annually since 2007 and last year more than 10 million people took some part. The Hour begins in Samoa and ends in Tahiti and has grown to include 162 countries and territories. The Earth Hour encourages individuals, communities, households and businesses to turn off their non-essential electricity for ONE hour. The idea is to raise awareness of climate change and to demonstrate that we care about the planet.

The Dean and Chapter have agreed that the Cathedral will participate and our floodlighting will be switched off for one hour. Inside the Cathedral there will be a candlelit meditation and prayer for the planet.

Please join us for ONE Hour to show you care for the Earth!

A Prayer in Lent

To you, O Lord, I lift up my soul
For in you I hope all day long.
However much we may know of your love,
however richly you have blessed us,
teach us to empty ourselves
So we may walk humbly with you
and keep us from falling into sin;
Increase in us a desire
to seek your will and study your word
urgently, passionately and wholeheartedly.
throughout this season of Lent.

Prayer for the Week

Lord God,

However much we may know of your love,
however richly you have blessed us,
keep us from falling into sin;
teach us to empty ourselves
so that we may be filled afresh with your spirit.
Increase in us a desire for your kingdom,
to seek your will and study your word
urgently, passionately and wholeheartedly.
throughout this season of Lent.

Changes to Service Times in Brown Clee Churches

The times of our Sunday services have been reviewed and will alter from February. Although the new time-table will present some changes we hope the new times and alterations (as well as additions)will provide a new opportunity to grow our congregations and offer a greater number of services both on Sundays and, from March, a Mid-week Communion Service. Please come and join us, a warm welcome awaits you whichever church you choose to attend.
